Bridging the Gap Between Physical Therapy and Daily Life
Many people view Pilates as a fitness trend, but its roots are deeply grounded in rehabilitation and controlled movement. At Pilates of Old Town, we specialize in movement as medicine. While we are very well versed in the “fitness” aspect of Pilates, we are equally dedicated to those navigating the complexities of post-surgical recovery, rehabilitation, and neurological conditions.
Our Specialized Areas of Focus
Post-Rehabilitation Support
Once your formal physical therapy sessions end, the journey to full strength is just beginning. We provide a safe environment to bridge that gap, helping you regain the confidence to move without fear of re-injury. With your permission, we will contact your physical therapist to discuss protocol.
Neurological Conditions
For clients living with conditions like MS, Parkinson’s, or stroke recovery, movement is a vital tool for maintaining quality of life. We focus on neuroplasticity—using deliberate, mindful movement to improve balance, coordination, and the mind-body connection.
Post-Surgical Recovery
Whether you are recovering from a joint replacement, spinal surgery, or abdominal procedure, our sessions are tailored to your surgeon’s protocols. We emphasize gentle core stabilization and mobility to help you return to your favorite activities sooner.
Why Specialized Pilates?
We don’t believe in “one size fits all” fitness. Every session is designed around your specific biomechanics and medical history. By using the Pilates Apparatus, we can adjust resistance, ensuring your muscles are challenged without being overtaxed. In addition, the progression is such that it begins in a prone position, so you are not working against gravity, and then progresses to a full standing, functional position.
Our Goal:
To help you move with ease and reclaim the activities that bring you joy—whether that’s a walk in the park, getting up off of the floor with ease, or a night on the ballroom dance floor.
